Nock your arrow.  Loose the arrow. Repeat until your quiver is empty. Walk to the target. Recover your arrows. Return to your position. Repeat. It is very easy to lose yourself for a few hours shooting arrows.

Vitan Archery connects us to the origins of spirituality in humans. Spirituality evolved in humans about 70,000 years as part of a matrix of cognitive and numinous capabilities that allowed for art, engineering and spirituality. 

Building bows and arrows became possible through this evolutionary shift, and some of the early evidence of these thinking-feeling people includes stone and bone arrowheads. Over tens of thousands of years artifacts made of wood or fabric decay and are lost in time. This is not the case with stone or bone arrowheads, as they persist for millenia. An example of this is the bone arrowheads in Sibudu Cave in South Africa that have been dated to about 61,000 years ago. 

While stone spear-heads have been found dating back much further in time, the production of archery is significantly more complex that simply attaching a stone to the end of a strong stick. To create bows and arrows it is necessary to understand how to source the timber for the bow, how to shape the bow, to create and attach the string. It is necessary to haft the arrowhead and to glue feathers onto the shaft. 

The flexibility of the arrow shaft in relation to the draw weight of the bow is also a consideration. All of these engineering considerations need to come together within a narrow range of tolerances in order for the archery kit to be a useful tool. It takes brains and spirit to do this.
